That was delightful. I love the entire story, from premise to conclusion. Everyone makes sense - they are all trying their best. Even, or perhaps especially Gabriel. The Messenger, driven half-crazy by the War in heaven, an absent Father, and hanging around with humans so long. You did an excellent job of keeping everyone in character, while allowing each of them to learn and grow.
